Longbridge Financial CEO Christopher Mayer, PhD, has been named a 2026 HousingWire Vanguard, recognizing his leadership, innovation, and continued impact across the housing industry.

The annual HousingWire Vanguard Awards recognize C-suite executives and business leaders whose work is helping move the housing economy forward across mortgage lending, servicing, real estate, investments, and other areas of the industry.

For Mayer, the 2026 recognition marks his second Vanguard honor, following his selection in 2022.

Advancing What’s Possible with Senior Home Equity

As CEO of Longbridge Financial, Mayer has helped lead the company’s evolution from a reverse mortgage lender and servicer into a broader home equity solutions company focused on serving older homeowners.

Under his leadership, Longbridge continues to expand what’s possible with senior home equity—developing new solutions, increasing consumer choice, and creating more ways for older homeowners to responsibly access and use the equity they’ve built in their homes.

Over the past year, that work has included the introduction of HELOC For Seniors®, a home equity line of credit designed specifically for homeowners age 62 and older, as well as the continued evolution of Longbridge’s proprietary Platinum reverse mortgage suite.

But Mayer’s vision extends beyond any individual product. His leadership has helped shape a broader approach to innovation at Longbridge—one grounded in data, responsible lending, and a commitment to understanding how the financial needs of older homeowners are changing.

“There is still an enormous opportunity to improve the way our industry helps people access and use the wealth they have built in their homes,” Mayer said. “That requires innovation, but it also requires responsibility, good data, and a willingness to listen.”

Leadership Across the Housing Industry

Mayer brings a unique perspective to his role at Longbridge, with a career spanning housing economics, academia, public policy, and mortgage finance.

A nationally recognized housing economist and Professor Emeritus at Columbia Business School, he has spent decades studying housing markets and mortgage finance. His experience also includes serving as an economist at the Federal Reserve and providing testimony before Congress on issues affecting mortgage markets and homeownership.

His work continues beyond Longbridge as well. In 2026, Mayer became the inaugural co-chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Senior Mortgage Solutions Network, a forum dedicated to advancing education, collaboration, and innovation around mortgage solutions for older homeowners. He also serves on the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

The 2026 HousingWire Vanguard recognition adds to a growing list of industry honors for Mayer, including his previous Vanguard award and four consecutive Inman Best of Finance Awards.

At Longbridge, we’re proud to see Chris recognized for the leadership and vision that continue to move our company — and the senior home equity industry — forward.
